this month’s Juxtapos and Hi-Fructose
Did some more work on the oil painting tonight! I get so impatient at this stage… when everything left to do is fussing with details and balance. When you’re starting something out, you can work on it for an hour and notice a huge difference, but once the base of a painting has been laid down, change is more gradual and you really need to be patient. Ugh!
I’m totally digging this month’s issues of Juxtapoz and Hi-Fructose!
It’s Juxtapoz’s 100th issue, so the articles and ads are intersperced with random quotes/excerpts from previous issues, along with a piece by the artist. It’s a nice touch, especially since the quotes are really well picked. There’s also an interview with Camille Rose Garcia- one of my favorites!!
Hi-Fructose contains an interesting article on Mark Ryden’s new show. I was kinda starting to get a bit burnt out on Ryden’s work, but these new pieces are absolutely gorgeous. I love how they’re more minimal than his previous paintings- it makes them feel more evocative rather than dulled down. I haven’t gotten through the whole issue yet, but just by fipping through it i can tell that there is some fucking fantastic work in it that is worth checking out.
