New painting … New I,Braineater show!
So far, so good with the new painting. There are a few details to tweak in the background, but i need to wait a bit until the paint dries a bit. I’m starting the helmet tomorrow and who knows how that’ll go, but thus far i’m pretty happy with how this is coming along!
It’s sort-of but sort-of-not a companion piece to my last painting… They came from the same initial sketch, but as the idea evolved, it sort of split in two- other than the pose, they’re aesthetically different and (hopefully) evoke different feelings. I’m not sure how i feel about this because they don’t look overly cohesive in the conventional way that a series of work can be, but i really wanted to create these in the way that felt right to me. I guess i’ll just see how it goes!
I, Braineater’s new show Art Crimes opened last friday and will be up for the next few weeks at Subeez in downtown Vancouver. Holy crap, what a fun opening night and what a great show! It was pretty busy in there so i want to go back soon to check it out without the piles of people milling about! Phil Western was freestyling (for lack of a better word) on a super old synth from the 60s, while Jim spoke/sang (uh, what the hell do you call it when someone speaks lyrically?!) some of his song lyrics and poetry over it WHILE DRAWING. It was pretty rad! He was doing these quick sketches on large pieces of paper with a sharpie and just handing them out to people in the crowd! Common consensus with everyone at the event said that it was one of those nights that you would be kicking yourself for missing if you weren’t there.
